Can anyone point me towards a program that can read adobe illustrator .ai files (which were not saved with a pdf version embedded)? I'm kindof 'up a creek' here with photoshop CS and preview both letting me down, as well as several searches on here and macupdate. Help?

Reading .ai files (no pdf) without Illustrator

In theory, photoshop should be able to open it, but only if it was created in a version of Illustrator current with, or prior to, your version of Photoshop.
Your simplest solution may be to download the current Illustrator demo from Adobe - as I recall, it gives you a 15 day trial.
Alternatively, VectorDesigner (shareware) will open (and allow modification of) .ai files.
