I just bought a Sony DSC-HX5V point and shoot camera and I love it! Problem is, I can't read the .mtc HD movie files on my Mac. Is there a way I can view this and covert this?

I tried using VLC player but the video lags a lot.

Thanks!

what kind of computer are you using?
what is the os?
what are the specs?
if it is highly compressed (which is my guess), your CPU is going to be taxed as well as your hard drive.

yeah, it's AVCHD.
do a search on these forums on how to convert it.
it's just plain messy otherwise.
And yes, you HAVE to convert.
the pitfalls of AVCHD

According to Sony, the the camera (P&S) records video using AVCHD, which is a highly compressed format and very taxing on the CPU, especially with a resolution of 1920 x 1080.

But even my C2D 2GHz iMac is capable of viewing H264 encoded video in 1080p without lag, and H264 is used for AVCHD footage anyway.

Did Sony deliver any software with the camera?
