iPhone 6(S)/Plus Ready to switch back to iPhone but..

My mom currently has an iphone 6 or 6S on ATT, and i currently have Sprint. If she upgrades to an iphone x, could I use her 6/6s or are iphones still carrier locked/incompatible due to gsm/cdma standards. I'll admit it's been a while since ive read up on this stuff.

Depends. Did she get it from att store? If she did then it's their version that doesn't have CDMA. Meaning it won't work.
