Readying iOS for travel?

I'm going on my first holiday tomorrow from the UK to Tunisia.

Im on Vodafone.

I want to be able to use my phone abroad but only on WIFI. I do not want to remove the SIM card as if i really do have an emergency i want to use it but what settings do i need to disable or turn off in order so i don't get charged for services abroad?

Just leave the phone on airplane mode and turn on wifi.

I can use wifi on aeroplane mode?

Any way to lock it into aeroplane mode to avoid accidentally turning it off?

Yeah airplane mode will turn off the wifi to begin with, but once its on airplane mode you can switch wifi back on.

And I don't think you can lock it but if you're paranoid then go into cellular > turn off data roaming. That way if you do switch airplane mode off then you won't get charged for using data abroad.
