John Spencer, best known for his role as Leo McGarry on The West Wing died today of a heart attack.

Ironically, he was recovering alcoholic who played a recovering alcoholic. Ironically, his character had a heart attack at the end of last season...

That's sad but it's more coincidental than irony. It would be ironic if he was a recovering alcoholic and was run over by a beer truck.

As a huuuuuuuge fan of "West Wing", I was deeply saddened to hear this. What will they do with the plot, since Spencer's character is the candidate for Vice President for the Democratic ticket?

I was surprised to hear this. Sad, he wasn't very old.

I'm curious how they'll write this into the WW script since he is a VP candidate in this season's election year. I wonder how many episodes he's taped already that have yet to air? Will they write this into the story before or after the election ends?

I am not a big fan of The West Wing, but when I did watch it, John Spencer (not Martin Sheen) was the actor I always thought was most interesting to watch. Spencer made it look so natural and effortless. It's a shame he's gone.
