Because I live so close to the dsl switching station here (less than 1000 feet) my hardwired ethernet connection to each room is very fast on hundred foot ethernet wires. But I'm moving, to a place that is 4900 feet away from the switching station and anyway, want to go wireless.

What would you guys suggest about getting an airport card for my pb Titanuim (being currently upgraded to 550mhz from Daystar) and my old iMac g3 266mhz? Should i get an older airport card for the tibook and a usb plug in airport thingie for the Imac?

The TiBook will only take the Airport card, not the Airport Extreme card. The iMac needs a certain adapter, if at all. And also, unless your DSL is giving you an 11 Mbps download speed, you won't max out even the older Airport system. You probably see <1Mbps realistically. Transferring a large file, however, and you would notice a difference.
