real media on quicktime/VLC?

I have a few RM files and wanted to play them without downloading the almost worthless realplayer...is there a codec which could fix this little bug.. I think all I have right now in plugins is perian

As far as I have found, nothing exists for the mac for converting these files to a useful format. I kind of wish people would quit encoding with it all-together.
