Hi folks,
I want to buy a new mac pro...i need to actually.
I transfer home videos for clients and compressing mpeg2s from SD video is one of my bottlenecks.
I currently use 4 different macs, but the youngest is a macbook pro 2.2. The main 'compressor' machine is my 06 mp 2.66 quad. It takes about 1.5 hours or so per 1 hour of SD video at the 'best' 90 minute 4:3 compressor setting.
I can find all sorts of 'tests' containing language that is beyond me to compare the 2 machines.
What i'm looking for is a real life test. I would go in a local apple reseller with an external HD loaded with test files, but since I'll be buying refurb, I'd like to respect their sales time and not waste it by using their time knowing I won't be buying from them.
So, how much faster would a 08 2.8 octo compress 1 hour of SD video into mpeg2 compared to the 09 octo 2.26.
One is $2499 and the other, well, I haven't seen it on the refurb site in a few weeks so I forget the cost. I know it's over $3 K if i remember correctly.
Would I be seeing 'minutes' or 10s of minutes in compressing difference between the 2.
I know either will crash my 2.66
cheers,
Keebler
