Since upping my connection speed to a 150mbit downlink I realised my current cheapo TrendNET router is terrible.

I'm looking at AirPort Extreme, since it has 5 GHz 802.11n and gigabit Ethernet ports and I have more faith in its ability to make my wireless devices actually find each other.

Given that there's no other 5Ghz signal in the vicinity and my apartment is very small and open, what's the realistic speed I could get when on wireless n?

In my experience, wireless n can provide bandwidth of up to 10MB/s (80Mb/s). If you really want to take the full advantage of your extremely fast connection, you should use wired connection.
