Dell has a 20.1" LCD monitor for $524 and a 24" for $1019.

Apple's 20" is $799 and 23" is $1499.

Even with the edu. discount I'll get with Apple, its still hard to pass up on saving a couple hundred dollars. So realistically, when and how much will Apple lower the display prices? I'm thinking something like this...

17" - $299 (thats probably wishful thinking, but that would be what they would have to price it to compete with Dell)
20" - $699 (maybe $599?)
23" - $1299
30" - no price cut

So what would you say? Think as if you were Apple, wanting to be competitive, but still making a profit.

the cut the prices in like march sooo it might be a while, im with you they should bring back the 17'' for 299 or 399 or a 15'' for 199

Is the Dell based on an all-aluminum design?

I think the ACD's may come down a bit, but considering the 20" old-school ACD I bought around a year and a half ago was 1299.00, don't count on it.

I agree that ACD's are over priced and I cannot see myself ever spending that ridiculous amount of money of those monitors when you can get a dell monitor for a less and with more features. Apple needs to seriously work on the pricing for their monitor line.

So Dell is making their displays out of aluminum instead of plastic now?

I just bought a 20" ACD and it's beautiful.

I'd definatly pay more to look at a silver apple all day rather than a circle with "Dell" written inside it.

:D
