Hi all

Had an iPhone 3GS 32GB sat here for 2 weeks stuck in recovery loop

Finally managed to custom restore it today using RedSn0w using the Pwned DFU then Shift Restore in iTunes choosing a custom 4.2.1 IPSW.

The iPhone now seems to be fully working as well as being fully unlocked!?
The Baseband is now 6.15 even though this IPSW didn't carry that baseband.
Is this iPhone permanently unlocked now?
Will it upgrade normally via iTunes in the future?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of 6.15
If it updates in the future will it become locked again??

:S

Thanks alot all :)

Nope. The iPhone is just using the iPad baseband for the unlock to happen. It's like any of the other unlocks in the past but more risky.

Will it upgrade normally via iTunes in the future?

No it will not. You'll need a custom firmware to upgrade. If you upgrade normally in iTunes you will get an error message because of the baseband.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of 6.15

Not being able to upgrade normally though iTunes (officially). Loss of GPS functions.

If it updates in the future will it become locked again??

Yes. Don't update, like I said in an above answer it iTunes will hand you an error message.

Thanks for your answers.

GPS seems to be working fine.
