I had two really weird things happen while upgrading a mid-2014 15" rMBP.
First, I discussed in this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/10-10-5-log-in.1907794/ that when I upgraded from in place 10.10.4 by clean install (delete partition and then d/l'd 10.10.5 from Install menu of Recovery Mode (CMD-R)), that once complete, it would make me log with iTunes password and then make me log in again with my account password. I did another clean install of 10.10.5 with delete of partition from Disk Utility again and then installed 10.10.5 from USB drive. Addressed that issue. Interestingly, I didn't transfer any settings either time. I don't do migration assistant or anything. I install everything fresh as if it's the first time. Data is stored in 1TB of Google Drive, so that's easy.
Then, when I setting up the computer my kid, whose going off to college this fall, I clearly didn't use any of the same info. Totally different iTunes account and all. Yet, while I was installing stuff, i uncovered that there were items in her trash bin that shouldn't have been there, because they were from my installation of 10.10.4!!!!! I deleted the damn partition twice.
How could this happen and how can I really, really nuke old data in the future when doing upgrades?
