My computer has been incredibly slow lately. Sure, it's a dated computer, but scrolling windows brings the enitre machine to its knees. I opened up the activity monitor and this is what I found.

The one that is taking up more that half of the processor time is a document that I am printing. A document! What should i do? I could clean install the machine, but that obviously wouldn't b ideal. Any thoughts?

How large is the file you're printing? Also are you running as root?

I just printed a small file on my Epson and it momentarily jumped to 40%. This is on a 1.8 G5 iMac. SO I suppose if you were printing a fairly large file on an older G4 you could see a sustained usage of the processor. I know I've brought this machine to its knees printing a bunch of files at once.

You could look to see if there are any updated drivers for your printer.
