Hey guys, just got a new momentus XT and finished installing it. Im at the disk utility page.

im somewhat confused though. all the youtube videos i see say to set up the HD, you go to erase, mac os x extended (journaled) and than you click erase and than install snow leopard like how u usually go about.

BUT from the manuals from apple

it says to
Click the Partition tab.
Click on Options, and verify GUID is selected if this is the startup drive.
Name the volume “Macintosh HD.”
Apply the change by clicking the Partition button.

PLEASE TELL WHICH WAY I DO THIS.

i would hate to mess up a new hard drive. i just like to be thorough on the things i do, so i was just curious on what the difference between those two methods are. and whether one is better than the other.!!!

They're the same.

Make it;

OS X EXTENDED (Journaled) with a GUID Parition and name it MACINTOSH HD or whatever you want.

What you're seeing in the youtube videos is to clear the hard drive and to reinstall snow leopard. What the manual is telling you to do is to make a partition for you to install snow leopard on. You'll need to do both of those things i assume since this is a new hard drive. So, do what you saw on the videos first then make a partition using the steps in the manual to install snow leopard on.

Check out this screen shot

Volume Scheme: 1 Partition
Name: Whatever you wish
Format: MAC OS X Extended (Journeled)

OPTIONS: GUID

You have to do this within Disk Utility and they are all options within Disk Util. Check my screenshot out.
