Hi all

I've got a really weird problem with my iMac - the other day I plugged in a cheap, broken aux cable that caused some weird problems - i.e. iTunes wouldn't play anything when it was plugged in, it would just skip through every track.

Now, after I unplugged it I have a clicking sound coming from the port - its intermittent though it happens more often than it doesn't, and it goes away instantly for a while when I plug in some headphones.

Has anyone experienced such a weird problem before or have any ideas as to what might be happening?

Cheers :)

Sounds like your headphone jack is faulty. Your "cheap, broken aux cable" must have either broken or bent some part of the connector inside the port. That could explain why your right speaker is not working (the port is connected to that - or should be on a properly working port.
That port is not too hard to replace, and you can find replacements for $10 or in that range.

Oh amazing - I assumed the port was directly on the logic board. I'll clean the port out and if it doesn't work I'll buy a new port (or just live with it haha)

thanks :)

I have the same problem. It appeared yesterday. I have MacBook Pro 15 2017 A1707. It just happened. I plugged in a usual normal working cable. My port looks ok - i don't know what could be wrong with it.

I suppose there is something wrong with Big Sur OS. After I upgraded I've already had 3 strange malfunctions.

1. Couple of weeks ago my left thunderbolt just stopped working. I made SMC reset. It helped.
2. Since last week my touchpad occasionally stops working. Rebooting helps.
3. This jack malfunction. Nothing helps ).
