iPod rearranging playlists made from selection?

I don't know if this is a feature or a bug, or if I just don't know what I'm doing, but if I make a playlist from a selection in iTunes 4.8, I can't rearrange the songs in said playlist afterwards like I can with a playlist I make manually. What's up with that?

You can only rearrange the order manually if you have the first column header (the unlabeled "index" column) selected. Is it? All the others will sort the contents.
