We are all waiting very patiently for the upcoming Apple iPad 2 event this Wednesday. So what do you guys think of the seemingly final design?

It's weird they changed the backside of the mac to a flat backside.

If you remember the old Ipod touches, 1G. those had a flat backside, later changed to a more curving backside.

And now they are doing the exact opposite thing on the Ipads.

Where is the logica?

I think the new iPod touches have flat backs as well. So does the iPhone 4. A flat back is the thinnest design you can make, it's most efficient at fitting in the components. Since the logic boards and batteries are flat and not curved, the curved design just creates wasted space.

But a curved design is a bit of a cheat as it makes the device look thinner than it really is.
You can have the middle fat where the batteries are, and then taper out thin at the edge, the bit the eye looks at, where it's just really case holding the screen.

Personally I don't know why the battery has to be fat. I'd like to see a thinner battery that covers the entire back, making the whole device thinner.

Seemingly fake. From BGR:

"UPDATE: Though it is highly likely that the image above will end up being a good representation of the iPad 2, it’s looking like this image was created by an Apple fan and is not an official render."

We all know that it was proven to be a fan recreation. But it's the best so far when compared to the physical mockups.

The question is (to everyone), are you happy with the design shown above that is danm near 95% of the real iPad 2.

Do you think then the iMac's are subject to change because that's what the iPad 1 is based off of? It'll be interesting to see the new iMac designs though.

The problem with all these mockups are that they look so thick!
From all the rumors out there, I think we can expect something pretty shockingly thin on Wed.

I'm unaffected by how the back looks because I had the original iPad since launch and the only two times I saw the back of it was when I first opened it and when I sold it this weekend.

BUT... one thing about the suspected cases and mockups is that big speaker in back. Why would a speaker be facing that direction rather than toward the user?

Agree.

Put these designs onto any soft surface and you are effectively blocking off the speaker.
I know we won't get a front facing speaker without a dramatic redesign, so just keep is side firing. Ideally stereo would be nice, but I suspect not.

IMO putting the speaker on the back is taking a step backwards.. The sound is being directed away from the user and then having a case on it would make it... I don't know the word... ugly?
