I have next to no use for the caps lock key, and I would like a physical key to act as a system-wide mic toggle. It seems that the caps lock key with its green light would make the perfect control for this, allowing you to unmute yourself easily, as well as providing the visual alert that you are unmuted.

I can create the system-wide mic toggle in automator, but it would appear I can't reassign a modifier key such as caps lock to control it.

Does anyone have a solution for this? I think in the age of online video meetings this would be extremely useful.

Well, with stock MacOS you can only disable it; but I'm feeling pretty confident that these two tools should be able to give you exactly what you want. (Sorry, don't have the time to look into exactly what you'd need to do; and I haven't used Karabiner in a while, so fuzzy memory of it.)

* Karabiner-Elements
* BetterTouchTool
