Saw this news break. She lost her battle with lung cancer.

I’ve found out about her recently, she was a BIG part of Mac gaming during the 1990s and 2000s. Aside from being one of the co-founders of Interplay, she was a big champion for Mac gaming being a part of some large projects. Including the cancelled PowerPC port of Half-Life under Logicware, plus Baldur's Gate II and many other ones. I believe she personally bought the MacPlay name after the company who owned it last abandoned the trademark.

I know I played a fair amount of her games on my old Performa 6400/180 and iMac G3 DV SE.

Feel free to share any memories of the games she made if you played them!

RIP. Heineman was indeed a big name in Mac gaming in the 90s and early 00s; I remember reading a MacAddict piece on her which featured a really insightful interview on the state of Mac gaming at the time. If you played a native "AAA" game on your PowerPC Mac back in the day, there's a good chance Rebecca was involved in that. It's thanks to her that gaming on my Performa 6320/120 and later my Power Mac G4 was viable.

I especially remember her for being involved with the infamous MacPlay PPC port of Aliens vs. Predator, which was beset with technical issues during the porting process.

And I also would be remiss if I didn't mention that as a trans woman, she was an important figure for queer people in the gaming industry as a whole.

You will indeed be missed Rebecca!
