Seem to have messed my partition tables up.

Through my dual-booting, with ubuntu and such I had this working just perfectly with bootcamp on my Macbook.

After I stopped using ubuntu and wanted my HDD space back, so did what i thought would be simple... I well used gParted to delete the ubuntu partition, leavin on my disk. my OS X partition along with 20GB of free space.

I then used disk utility to resize my OS X partition to use that 20GB of free space. I always thought everything turned out just fine. OS X has ran fine and all.

Well the other day i decided i wanted to re-dualboot Ubuntu. I go to bootcamp, and bootcamp tells me it cant partition my disks for they are already partitioned. I figured this was just a glitch in bootcamp because i never "officially" un-formatted the disks from bootcamp. So I go to disk utility to ask it to resize my OS X partition to give my 20Gb of free space, in which I would use gParted to turn into an ubuntu partition (simple enough... right?)

Well Disk utility got stuck at "Modifying Partition maps" ... i let it sit for at least an hour even thouhg I had been told this step was supposed to take secnods, or minutes at most. Now, I installed rEFIt (as Ubuntu forums recommended) and with rEFIt, i asked to sync/repair (something like that) my MBR partition tables. Well when i did it said something like "Unknown error, these disks will not be touched... Press Any key to continue"

Even Odder is from rEFIt's main screen it shows 2 boot options. It shows my OS X start up... and then one wiht a window logo saying "Legacy OS boot" when i choose that.. it just takes me to a black screen saying "OS cannot be found"

I am stuck... and very scared because i have no means to back up (i will work on this soon) but at the moment im hoping for a way to repair my partition tables without reformatting.

AT LEAST OS X still boots perfectly and all my files appear to be fine.
