Recapturing deleted files on Final Cut

Greetings one and all! I wonder if anyone has experienced this before?

A friend I share my edit suite with deleted all the fc files for my 100 minute film........ :eek:

I now have to painstakingly recapture each shot, and am clear how to do this, but FC wants to take in not only the material for the shots, but up to half an hour extra.

Does this mean I literally have to take in the original material shot by shot rather than by scene or sequence if I want to avoid running out of space before the end? Is there a setting I can alter instead?

Thanks for any advice as soon as possible!!!!
