Receive email in iMessage (push)?

been reading abt imessage and i as i understand, it should be possible to receive email in imessage, right?

so i went to settings/messages/send&receive and added a non-apple email account there... got the confirmation mail and all... but sending a mail to that account does not get me a message...

did i understand all this wrong or what?

No, you can't receive email in Messages. What you are thinking of is you can add an email address to Messages and that will allow other iOS Messages users to send texts to you at the email address.

So basically people are sending texts to your email address in Messages. You both need to have Messages for this to work.
