Hey, I recieved PM spam from user "ryan2008" with 0 posts. Can the mods ban him (or the spam-bot, as it may be)?

I won't post where it links to, but it's that preowned watches place.

Can't the admins read our PMs? Maybe send a message instead of posting to forum.

Thanks guys. I PM-ed WildCowboy.

BTW, wasn't the entire site shut down for half a day a few weeks ago due to excessive PM spam? Perhaps this is a reoccurrence of the issue?

Thanks for the heads-up on this...taken care of.

This is the sort of thing that any mod can take care of, and time is frequently of the essence since the spammers usually send out a lot of PMs, so ideally you'd want to use a system that alerts any mod on duty. Typically that's the Report Post button next to a post. But that obviously only works for a post, and isn't really applicable to PMs. But you could report just about any post and explain the situation and it would get handled.

Another option would be to PM a mod or mods who you know are on duty. You can see that by going to the Forum Leaders page. You might want to check to make sure that a mod really is active before PMing them, as their status indicator remains green for some time after they go offline, so look for very recent activity by them. This might be the best strategy.

You can also use the Contact Us link at the bottom of any forum page. The advantage is that, like reported posts, any moderator can see and respond to the issue. Another advantage is that this is a good system for reporting issues not pertaining to a specific post, like in this case. The disadvantage is that these Contact Us submissions are typically handled by an admin (Doctor Q or myself), and other moderators on duty might not notice the report come in.

PMing an admin such as myself who is offline at the time will work, but it might take a while for the admin to check in and respond to it, so it's not ideal.

Anyway, apologies for the long and convoluted explanation of your options for reporting this sort of thing.
