Hi all, my old receiver finally kicked the bucket last night. Anyone have suggestions for a sub-$500 5.1+ box that they’re certain the CEC function of the Apple TV works properly?

The rest of my setup is 3.1 of all mid tier Klipsch speakers and a 4K 65” Vizio, and the recently released Apple TV 4K.

I’m looking to power on and off all 3 at once with the Apple remote and have the volume/mute buttons on the remote

Thanks in advance.

Does your TV function with CEC 100%? There is a chain of devices.

There isn’t a product made that works 100% with CEC. The internet is riddled with CEC issues. It may work great for 6 months then one day it sh*ts the bed and stops for no reason at all. You reboot everything, turn off then on CEC and still nothing. Then a few months later starts working again.

I've had luck with a denon receiver in the past, and the one I used to have came out in 2011. it controlled power, volume, and setting inputs.
Had it with both a Panasonic and an LG OLED

I've changed to sonos now, first a Beam, now an Arc, And both have worked fine. Sonos doesn't really power off, but the volume controls work.

I've never had issues with CEC not working.

I think the "riddled with issues" is more a case of only the unhappy making noise, Because if CEC works fine, I'm not going on to some random board to say so, and also it's such a basic feature, I probably wouldn't mention it in a review. kinda like the power cable, unless it shorts out and burns down someones house, probably doesn't get much mention.

just make sure you have decent cables, and they're well seated on both ends. Decent doesn't mean crazy expensive.

My set up is Apple TV 4K-->LG C9 with passthrough to-->Denon S750H using eARC. Pressing the power button on the new Apple TV remote turns everything on. Pressing and holding the power button turns everything off. Volume and mute buttons control the Denon AVR.

Thanks for the input all. After a good bit of research this morning, that S750H on sale at Costco for $399 seems pretty unbeatable for my needs. Cheers.
