Receiving a new text in an open thread...

I'm a little confused about the handling of text messages. If I receive a new text message in an open thread before the screen turns off (after I sent my reply), I have to hit the "Message (1)" back button to go back and read the reply to what I sent. In iMessages, the threads autoupdate in realtime so there's no hitting back. Why doesn't SMS on the iPhone appear to allow threads to update in realtime when the screen is still on as the reply comes back?

Hmm, mine appears to real time update even with SMS.

I've read posts where others had this issue, but it's never done it to me. I was texting my son last night, he has an Android phone and each text appeared as he sent them. I'd left the convo open, so I'd see his responses while ordering his requested Christmas gift.

I haven't had this problem either. Whether it's an SMS or an iMessage, it always shows up in the window if I have it open at the time.
