receiving faxes in OSX

How do I go about receiving faxes with OSX?? Do I need a fax service?? Can they be sent directly to my Powerbook or does the Mac have to be linked with a phone?? I don't need to send, just receive.

You'll need a modem with a phone line connected. Works like a charm.

This may be what I'm looking for!! I need to receive faxes when I'm away from home. I would think it depends on the fax machine I have, I guess.
