Hi, I've had my macbook for 3 years running on osx 10.4.11, and am just now starting to see signs of quirky behavior.

---the most annoying issues relate to java in firefox...

I have continually used all sorts of java run media which my macbook has always accepted with no problems, but this semester I am required to use 2 different java run programs, all which run in my browsers (firefox & safari.)

one program will work for a few minutes and firefox or safari will quit as if it were force quitted. This happens time to time with many websites, but is usually related to data overload (not the case here).

the second website requires a java plugin that will not automatically download, so I manually downloaded the plugin, but recieve an error:

"the jar file couldn't be launched, check the consol for possible error messages"

because the file wont open, it wont transfer to java extension folders even through terminal.

---another problem i have is with iDVD...

every time i create a project and burn it using .avi files, the project shuts down shortly before finishing, and the saved file defaults to a blank project, even though it still appears to be the file of the project i saved before burning. i have successfully burned and managed to maintain a saved project 1 time. ever since, I have had this problem.

all of these little problems adding up are leading me to believe that I might have a bug somewhere on my mac. I use torrents and limewire pro, but not much recently and im smart enough not to download fishy files.

I dont want to wipe my hard drive clean, because I dont want to lose paid applications, settings, files etc..

any recommendations? the ability to use the java plugin with the error message is extremely important. the majority of kids in my 250+ class use macbooks and no one has had a problem downloading this plugin.
