recent documents... how?

Hi,

I miss a place where i can see recently opened documents such as text files, word documents, etc.

I see Documents in dock but when I click on it, it shows only folders...

Do I need to use smartfolders as per some tutorials found on the net to do what I want? http://lifehacker.com/306425/get-recent-documents-in-one-place-with-smart-folders

Just curious why in the doc documents has just folders? its the recent folders used?

The Documents folder icon in the Dock is not for recent documents but it is a shortcut (alias) to the Documents folder inside your home directory (Macintosh HD / Users / YOU).

This easily found hint works on my 10.6.6 Mac: 10.5: Add a 'recent things' stack to the Dock
