So watching this whole Fox News lawsuit thing, and this IS NOT remotely about that
Lots of folks get in trouble over their old texts, not just some fox personalities but lots of stories over the years, and sometimes it could even just be something taken out of context

So what does everyone here do?

Auto delete after X weeks?

Trust in the encryption?

I know the whole “if you have nothing to hide” nonsense, but real world and with where things are going, it’s wise to be security conscious

I don't but most of my "texts" are with random people and not real friends/family. For friends, family and group chats, we all use Signal.

Nothing.

Now if someone wants to walk through my texts with my wife they're going to find a lot of her texting me what to pick up at the grocery store, me telling her that I'm there to pick her up and reminding her of our bank balance and other similar stuff.

My kids are much the same.

If I text work contacts it's solely business. I work from home so I don't see these people at all.

Others: contacting my yard cleanup guy to come clean up the yard, shortcodes for the grocery store, prescription refills, etc.

I could lose them all tomorrow and not care.

Why?

Because nothing important is EVER discussed via text message. No sensitive info is EVER sent via text message (unless you want count the bank balance as 'sensitive' info). Tone cannot be conveyed via a text - emojis can only do so much. If it's important, I speak directly, in-person, with the person I need to speak with.

I value my privacy and the other person's privacy and if it's that important, I respect them enough to speak with them face to face. And I'm not talking Facetime or Zoom.

Phone calls might be a little more sensitive, but not by much.

I don't delete any texts, never mind "Auto-delete" I also don't use any other texting app - just iMessage.

I mean if the police want to see me asking if my daughters are working today, or if I have a karate class - ok. Kind of boring but ok ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Daughters mention they just hate that blonde girl in chemistry “like won’t she just die” they are joking of course, that girl later disappears

That kind of thing

The only ones I delete are spam or 2FA stuff, just to make it easier to find recent conversations.

Sorry but no.

You can export conversations to PDFs and take screenshots, so there's not really a way to deal with it as far as within the party of people involved. The encryption is to keep everyone else out.

Most likely a friend is going to have texts that girl sent them about something/someone specific that would become the main focus.

People are just going to feel regretful with a text like in your example. They might even both totally forget about it.

90% of my texts are from/to my wife. There is nothing in them that I have security concerns about.
I only use iMessage. Not on WhatsApp.
The other 10% are mostly football banter with friends or work colleagues.
