I live in a 1-bar at best reception area. However, I often get two or even three while on the cradle or for a minute or two after I take it off. Then the bars fade to one (usually no phoning possible) or no service. The e for edge sometimes is there and sometimes not.

Is this normal or meaningful?

Thanks

I would say that it's a normal thing to have random fluctuations in reception wherever the phone is, as in the case of the getting more bars while in the cradle. About the EDGE changing, it may be the phone is picking up a WiFi signal and is changing to that or just that the phone is unable to pick up the signal in that particular location due to poor conditions. It seems normal in your case because you state that you usually only get 1 bar of reception, so I would say the changes are nothing to be worried about. Cheers.
