Hello all. Have been a long time reader of these forums but decided I would register and put forward my two cents.
I like many other queued this morning and collected my iPhone 4 16gb. Knowing a little bit of the problems with reception people had been experincing I decided to try it myself. Sure enough, the 3G signal drops from full strength to 1 bar when held in my left hand, touching the antenna.
My question is...realistically what are Apple's options for dealing with this major issue? I am very annoyed like many others that something as elementary as an antenna for a mobile phone has been overlooked. What do we expect Apple to do and what kind of time scales are we looking at. I see the following options:
1. Apple find a software fix, firmware update needed to rectify signal problem.
2. Apple find hardware issue and give free 'bumpers' to all owners (if this does indeed fix the problem)
3. Apple find hardware issue which can be rectified by Apple by sending your handset in for a fix.
4. Apple find a hardware issue which cannot easily be done to your existing handset - entire iPhone stock re-designed/distributed to existing customers.
I am hoping it is the first option but it appears to almost definately be a hardware problem. What realistically will Apple to do fix this?! I'm kinda frustrated with the lack of response from Apple so far (i.e. a press release or something). I have spoke to Apple support who just told me they were aware of the problem and believed that there may be a software fix in the near future.
Grrrrrrr.
