Reception Report while traveling

I traveled this past weekend between Nashville and St. Louis with my wife who has a 3GS. I checked the phones about every hour. We both had service the entire time. Normally we lose signal in Illinois for about 30 miles. Several points along the way my iPhone 4 had stronger signal than the 3GS. Talked on the phone several times, with now dropped calls. I also didn't miss any calls due to low/bad signal. I can replicate the signal holding issue, but seem to have no problems in real world use and seem to have better reception in areas that used to give me trouble.
