Hi,

Can anyone here recommend a Mac BitTorrent program? I need something stable, easy to use, pretty, and "Macish".

Any help much appreciated.

Steve.

Another vote for transmission, clean interface and low on system resources. :)

I tried Azureus for a while, but it was slow and clunky. Works well on windows, not so much with os x

Azureus is a tiny bit slow and clunky, and it's not "Macish" at all, but it's the only one with all the needed features.

Xtorrent has a really great looking GUI, but I think it has a crappy core that doesn't play nice with all trackers (not sure, that's what I've heard).

Transmission has actually been banned from some trackers due to a number of reasons.

As much as the interface sucks, Azureus is the most reliable BitTorrent app that I've used.

I use Transmission because it's so clean and simple. The only feature I'd like ot see added would be the ability to select which files I want to download from a torrent.

I use Xtorrent rather happily. Haven't tried much else, but the GUI on Xtorrent is superb, and I've had only a few issues with trackers.

Same folks that did Acquisition, btw.

If you dont mind using a beta version that has a number of issues, i reccomend Bit Rocket. Its really fast, and i like the user interface a lot.

My vote is for Transmission.

Small, fast and works!

I generally dont use Java programs as they are painfully slow.

Just want to point out that BitTorrent is not an anonymous protocol, and as such your use of it is fairly easily intercepted by active IP address. Wikipedia has a good writeup for your information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent

Also, as an on-and-off poster for a while, I am obliged include the standard disclaimer that MacRumors does not condone piracy in any form.

True - it's probably the lack of anonymity which prevents it being shutdown.

Bit torrent cannot be throttled (not that i know of) but if you have all the bandwidth for yourself go for it. I had some hick-ups with azarus.
