OK, got my new MacBook Air with Lion, and of course lost a few old favorites (Galactica Anno Dominari, and Spaceward Ho).

Any recommendations for strategy games? Prefer the space conquest variety, but I'll take a look at others too.

If you're not against going into Windows via bootcamp Sins of a Solar Empire is a great space conquest game. Also AI War is available on both Mac and PC via Steam.

X3:Terran Conflict is more sandbox than strategy, but it's a suggestion. I can't vouch for the Mac version since I have it on Windows (Bootcamp).

Homeworld 2, while being a few years old is absolutely fantastic. One of my all time favorite games.

X3 is great but there is a lot to take in if you are not used to that type of game.

Masters of Orion 3 and Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity both work fine with http://wineskin.doh123.com/

I been playing MoO3 this way the past few days... I do like the game, but some of the defaults are bad.

If you want to get into MoO3 (the Windows version with Wineskin, since the Mac version was PPC... but Wineskin runs it better than the native Mac version ever did) I'd suggest adding some mods.

I use the mods from the link below.. using their program inside the same wrapper, and making a Custom EXE launcher to run it and it seems fine as well.

SOme really good mods and bug fixes there.

Yeah mods are a must, the original game is very much broken. MoO2 is much better on it's own.

Galactic Civ 2 is a good and more recent game that's similar to the MoO series. You'll probably have to play it in bootcamp or a virtual machine. Current Mac models should be sufficient to run it in a VM, since it isn't particularly hardware intensive by today's standards.

Sins of a Solar Empire is also a good game, though it is more like a very large scale RTS game. Battles look really good on it.

its rated really well with Wine in their AppDB, so I'd assume it wouldn't take much work making a Wineskin port... much easier than using Bootcamp or a virtual machine.
