Hi All,

I have a MBP17, bought in Feb 2009, the HDD is a 320Gb 7200RPM. Looks like I have run out of space and cannot clear much more off, because of the number of VMs I'm running.

So can someone recommend a new HDD for me, 750GB or 1TB would be good but they seem to be only 5400RPM drives.

Thanks
John

you can get 500gb 7200rpm drives quite easily
but a 5400 rpm drive isn't that much slower than a 7200rpm.
may be better for you to get a 640gb 5400rpm drive or bigger

Hello, I have a 13 mbp and I just updated my hard drive. I have the 2.26 c2d and I tried the WD Scorpio Blue. My computed was very sluggish with this drive. I returned that drive and got the Seagate Momentus 500gb 5400 rpm. My computer runs much better with this drive. I do notice a bit more vibration with this drive v/s the original 160gb drive, but I am enjoying the extra space. Especially now that I am sinking my iPad with my mbp and need most of my content available. Hope this helps a little.

I wish this were easier to find (here in Canada at least)!

As mentioned, you can get 750 & 1tb notebook drives now, but they're 5400 and 5200rpm's respectively. If you want 7200, 500gb is the largest you'll find.

I have no experience with it, but WD's 750gb drive gets decent reviews online:
