What is the best notebook hard drive that i can buy (and afford)

I have a budget of £40, meaning no SSDs for me.

I am looking for a quite, cool, fast and reliable 320GB 7200RPM HDD. Which is the best one i can buy?

Thanks Guys :D

There really isn't a best drive like miles said, but I can tell you that I have had a very good experience with my Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB. It actually runs cooler than the slower drive it replaced, and gives a nice boost in speed.

Ha! All my Seagate drives from the past 6 years running strong. Even the WD rep I work with have jokes about how ****** WD harddrives are... ;)

At work I have dealt with close to 200 WD drives on this base alone (Not enterprise level either, due to cost saving BS we had to deal with). All of them are reliable. I also have WD drives in my file server at home. I'm not knocking Seagate, after their .11 series screwup, they've become very reliable. However saying WD is garbage is false to say the least.

+1 for the Momentus XT. Best mechanical hard drive you can buy.

This. A thousand times this. For performance/dollar (or performance/pound), it can't be beat, especially considering the available capacities.

I picked up yet another 500GB for $99USD. Have one in my Mini. Have recommended them to many. When SSDs hit $1/GB on 512GB densities, I'll bite on SSD, but until then, Momentus XT.

My beef towards WD has much to do with their external vs internal.

Hey thanks guys for the ideas. I've had a good look at the Segate Momentus XT. Does it really speed up your Macbook Pro, by speeding up boot times, and opening large programs? thanks :)
