The Land of Hope and Glory
I'm about to start studying in October and need some books to learn calculus and statistics as a bit of a head start on the course. Can anyone recommend some books on the topics, please?

My advice: find out what textbooks will be used in your courses and buy them early. If you're going to be a university student, simply contact the relevant departments to get the information; most introductory level classes use the same book across all instructors.

Then, with or without the books, have a look at Khan Academy. It's a great place to get the hang of a lot of subjects.
