Recommendaiton on a simple tripod video camera

Hey guys!

I would like to get into making simple home movies using iMovie. I'd like to get a tripod to record some of the scenes that I can't record with iPhone 6 (I use iPhone 6 (8 megapixels) for all my pictures).
Could you please recommend a simple beginner level video camera that won't differ much in quality from an iphone 6's video camera?

Why can you not just use your iPhone on a tripod? Something like the Manfrotto Pixi with the phone clamp?
