Im looking to upgrade my stock 160GB harddrive in my uMBP and i wanted some feedback on which would be best. I have done some research and have decided on two different models a

WD Scorpio Blue:

and Hitachi Travelstar 5k500 :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145257

Both drives are 500Gb and 5400rpm so i don't really know which to pick.

After reading some of posts on these forums about the issue with the WD Scorpio Blue on new uMBP's i thought i would ask here before making any decision.

I'd recommend Seagate's Momentus XT. It's faster than a typical HDD, and has more capacity than a typical SSD.

Either the Hitachi TravelStar 7K500 or the Western Digital Scorpio Black. Seagate has a long history of drive failures, and the Momentus XT is not the fastest drive in many tests.

I went to my local pc shop today and purchased the Hitachi drive and no problems except for a slight increase in heat.

I don't know if this is normal but my MBP runs slightly warmer under normal load where before it was cool to the touch.

You're more than likely just noticing things because you're looking for it. Mine got warm to the touch stock.

Probably. I just looked at iStat and it shows the CPU temp at 59C and HD Temp at 38C so it is the same temps as the stock 160GB hitachi it replaced.
