With my recent purchase of a PS3 and an impending upgrade from my iBook, I'm looking at moving up from my Logitech Z-2200s to something capable of working with digital/optical audio.
My current apartment is pretty small and I don't have a lot of source material in 5.1, so surround is not necessary (scratch the Logitech Z-5500s off my list?). Would it be wiser to find a used receiver? I just purchased a pair of Denon D1001 headphones, so maybe those + a receiver + headphone amp will be enough?
My budget is probably about $250 right now.
As a side note, I remember somebody posting in the Mac setup thread with an audio system that had the sub placed on the desk but can't remember the name of the speaker system. What is it?
