The 500 GB drive in my MacBook Pro was getting a little tight on size, so I decided it was time for an upgrade. As I intend to keep the machine for another couple of years, I opted for two 1TB drives, one in the main drive bay, the other in the DVD bay.
I know many people opt for a solid-state drive in tandem with a conventional hard drive, but I'm perfectly satisfied with the performance of the machine and wanted to maximise storage capacity.
I'm a complete klutz when it comes to anything mechanical, so didn't want to take the chance of doing the work myself. Asking here for recommendations, I was pointed to London Mac: http://www.londonmac.com.
They ordered the drives and DVD mount for me, cloned the existing drive, moved the DVD writer to an external case and fitted both drives for a very reasonable £90. The work was done in a single afternoon, most of which time was the cloning.
A fast, efficient and friendly service. I can recommend them to anyone else with two left hands.
