I'd prefer it be able to do 1440p. The mba can display this right? I have to get the mini to dvi adapter?

You can do up to 2560 by 1600 on the Air. Some newer monitors have a display port option so you just need the cable, if it doesn't come with one. You can also use a HDMI adapter as most screens have HDMI, and then you can reuse it for TV use.

A monitor with a IPS LCD panel gives you better colours and viewing angles (Samsung calls this PLS). Some have usb hubs, sound, rotation, adjustable height, etc. It really depends on what you need.

Really just lookin for a nice monitor. The hdmi will only give me 1080p though right? I'd need a dvi adapter to get the 2560x 1600?

After a bit of research, Windows will allow for 2560 by 1600 if you have the newest HDMI which is 1.4. OSX will refuse unless you force it to display or use bootcamp. My apologies for suggesting HDMI.

Use display port or dual link dvi (single link only goes to 1920 by 1200). Keep in mind the official apple dual link dvi adapter is about $100.

Yeah id prolly rather go Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort. Seems like monitors that support that high resolution are relatively expensive.
