Hello, so my mid-2014 MacBook Pro needs a new battery. I haven't been using it because the battery health was not great and I didn't want to risk anything with the battery. however, I would like to be able to use it again so I can browse the internet or watch videos while in bed. I saw someone recommend Ninjabatt as good brand of replacement batteries, but then someone else said they have had some issues with their stuff.

So my question is, what are your recommended brands that make good and trustworthy batteries for Macbooks?

Thanks

Why not Apple direct? That's the only truly "Trustworthy" replacement, and frankly it's not that expensive. I think they'll still replace the battery in a 2014... maybe not?

Anything else, you're rolling the dice.

Yes?

"Mac laptops may be eligible for an extended battery-only repair period for up to 10 years from when the product was last distributed for sale, subject to parts availability"
It appears the cutoff is 2015, and that’s for the MBA. Service is available only back to 2017 for MBP models.

Yikes! Have you even looked at the procedure for removing the battery at iFixit?

33 steps for 13", 55 steps for the 15", battery adhesive solvent…and a whopping one-year warranty after all that!

Not a recommendation but you can get a "renewed" M1 MacBook Air on Amazon for as low as $406. I'm sure it will browse the internet and stream video just fine.

If you knew all that…disregard this post.

It was intimidating the first time I did it, but once you've done one it's easy.

2017 is the oldest listed on the site. But check with stores/AASPs, often they can still get older batteries and will quote you the price. It's on an as-available basis for 10 years after discontinuation.
