I have a Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus utilizing asynchronous USB 2.0. I have corresponded with Cambridge Audio about methods (USB 2.0, Toslink or SPDIF) to run a 10m cable from my iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019(June), model: iMac19,1 to the DacMagic (utilizes usb 2.0 asynchronous). Cambridge is not good at giving full answers and am currently waiting for a reply from them on the status of the DacMagic Plus as whether it is a “Full Speed” or “Low Speed” usb device. Knowing the speed of the DacMagic plus will enlighten me what the spacing of powered hubs should be along the 10m run (Full speed= 5m separations, Low speed = 3m separations).
Here is Cambridge’s reply to date: “Thank you for your patience while I waited to hear back from our engineers. They have advised that active 10m USB cables that have integrated amplification (in-line repeaters) that ensure Hi-Speed USB 2.0 performance. Unfortunately, we don't recommend any specific 3rd party brand for this.”
So, despite any acknowledgements of my concerns over the USB “roundtrip delays” in 10m of cable being >3.0µs (2- 5m cables + 1 powered usb hub), it is not of any significant concern in 10m. They’re reply above apparently suggests USB 2.0 cable length to 10m, and powered hubs not virtual hubs or a powered 5m usb cable? I’m hopping to hear back that it is a “Full Speed” usb receiver, therefore requiring just 1 powered hub between to 5m usb 2.0 cables.
This is my question, and for clarity I will say I need minimum or greater certified USB spec hardware here. Two certified USB audio 2.0 “High Speed” 5m cables, and one dedicated usb powered interconnecting hub. I will not use the hub except between the two 5m cables without any additional connects to this hub. Question is; where to buy and what brand names meet the requirement. Also a brand name and retail outlet for the necessary hub.
Thanks for any suggestions, Robes
