Hi all,

I recently purchased the 2020 13" MBP (the 2.0 GHZ and 1 TB version) and want to use it sometimes with an external monitor and keyboard. Does anyone have a recommendation for a external keyboard with good travel? I had heard the Logitech MX Keys was a good keyboard, but after buying it found that it has not enough travel for my preference.

Thank you!

Maybe try a keyboard with mechanical keys? I have this keyboard (Steelseries Apex 7 Keyboard ) and it has lots of travel to it. I really like it, but disclaimer I am using the Apple Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad now...the keyboard above has retired to my closet only because I wanted a more minimal look of the Apple keyboard and trackpad. But overall I really like the Steelseries Apex 7...I'm not sure which switches mine has, they have options for Red, Blue, and Brown switches. I would go to the Steelseries website to learn about the different types and see which one sounds like it would work best for you if you go that route.

Thanks for the reply! I've never tried a mechanical keyboard. I've heard they're loud? Did you have that experience?

The Apex 7 that I have defiantly has a pronounced click to it when you press the keys...it is not silent by any means but I wouldn't call it obnoxiously loud.

Silent Red (as opposed to just Red) switch keyboards have among the lowest noise. You're still going to get some clack and it's still nowhere near e.g. scissor action laptop style keyboard, but it's among the least worst.

A lot of Ducky and Filco keyboards are offered in Silent Red.

That aside, I'll recommend the Surface keyboard if you are looking for "like Apple, but better" and don't mind remapping / remembering legends - not only because Microsoft have made better HID's than Apple for the last half-decade at least, but also because it's the closest aesthetically to something Apple makes.
