I usually take my laptop to class to take notes, surf the web and read/edit documents. It's not a super heavy device (rMBP 13") but it definitely adds weight to my already packed messenger bag.

I'd like to start using my iPad a bit more and leave the laptop for the heavy work at home.

I know the basic apps that work well cross platform (Dropbox, Evernote, Pages) but I'd like to know if any of you guys have a particular app that you just cannot live without, wether you're in college or not.

There's a lot of apps in the Productivity/Utilities section in the app store, but I don't feel like spending $10 on each app just to try them out and realizing they won't work for me.

I keep reading that 'Things' is a great app, but it's super expensive, and you have to buy the app on each device. I would spend that money in a heartbeat if it truly does facilitate organizing things, but I just don't see what's so different from a free app like Evernote.

Any thoughts guys? Recommendations? Any 'hidden gems' out there?

Thanks!

I'm in college, and use my iPad every day in class.

I use Blackboard mobile to check my grades and to download the class lectures (great if your school/teachers use blackboard).

Documents by Readdle for all my PDF viewing needs.

PDF Converter to convert Powerpoints to PDF.

NoteTaker HD for handwritten notes.

iFaraday RXII stylus.

Atomic Web Browser.

Pages for writing papers.

Those are my most used apps for school.

Thanks for responding! I'm definitely going to try those apps, especially the ones by Readdle, they seem pretty good.
