I used to use the Sony HDV tapes but they're almost 4x as much as the regular tapes. Anyone have any recommendations for tapes if I previously used the Sony HDV ones? Not sure if the type of lubricant used on tapes matters anymore which is why I'm asking. Thanks.

I've been using the basic Panasonic tapes you can get at Circuit City or Best Buy. In fact, these tapes were on sale on the last Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) at a price of 2 for 2.99. I stocked up then.
I usually record in SD but the several hours of HD I've shot with the cam have shown no frame drops with the Panasonic tapes.
Sorry, I can't think of the exact model number of the tape right now, but I think it's the only kind those big stores carry.
I have the samce camera (Canon A1-XH).

ahh anyone know the exact brand? I'm purchasing them online.

Found it on Best Buy's website.
Model number: AY-DVM60EJ by Panasonic
They sell them for $14 for just two tapes, but like I said before, you can find them much cheaper on sale or on the web.
Once you go with a certain tape, you usually want to stick with it for the life of the camera.
