I know these types are getting asked all over the internets but honestly I just have not found the answer for my particular situation. If you all would please bear with me and I'm graciously waiting for anybody who can help.

What I would ultimately like to accomplish is to record my PS3 gameplay onto my laptop via Final Cut Express 4. Here is the setup i have worked out thus far:

My PS3 is connected to a Sony DVD-recorder via the red, white, and yellow cables.

The DVD-recorder is connected to the TV via the same cables (I can see video and hear audio when I play the PS3 game).

I also have a Firewire Cable that I wish to utilize as the connection between the DVD-recorder and the Macbook.

With all of this connected together however, I cannot capture the footage with my laptop. Final Cut Express gave me an error screen that stated the capture presets were wrong. So after rummaging through the options, I found the presets and tried to set them to the Firewire basic and it was to no avail. I would really appreciate anyone's help in this matter.

One additional note: I would prefer not to have to buy any kind of special software from what I have available to me.

Again Thanks in advance to all that provide help. :)
