Just noticed that when you go into the the Camera app and switch it to video..
You can double tap the screen and it makes it widescreen (i think).

If it's not widescreen, then what is it?

-edit-

This also explains why people say that their vids are already zoomed in.

Sorry if this has been posted before.

Then why is it an option?

Strange find, I can see absolutely no difference in the actual videos shot either way. I shot 2 basically identical videos from the same spot both "zoomed" and "un-zoomed" and only thing I can see is that when you double tap you actually get the framing correct, without the double tap you don't see the entire frame being filmed (basically same effect as playing a video and zooming, it does not change the video, just what you see on the screen).

It just gives you an option to view the entire frame or fit to window.

With the iPhone dimensions and the camera controls, it won't fit 16x9 without the letterboxing.

So the "un-zoomed" is 16:9 and the "zoomed" is not?

unzoomed is 16:9 and zoomed is...whatever aspect ratio iphone4 is. 4:3?

Either way, the exported video will be 16:9, so to make sure you are shooting everything as intended, you should use the un-zoomed mode.
