Record music and cut video

Hi guys, recently, I need to make a video clip, I already find a pretty cool video editing software: Final cut express HD. Right now, what I need is another app to cut video clip and record sound. which one should I use? I used to use MPEG Streamclip, but it can't recognize MKV files, so bacically, I'm stuck here
